8th Annual Marx Toy & Train Collectors National Convention is in the History Books!

On Friday and Saturday, June 16th and 17th, 2006, the Toy Museum hosted the 8th Annual Marx Convention. 82 vendor tables stacked high with all sorts of Marx goodies greeted the hundreds of attendees and family members! Talks by George Kroll (Marx Demonstrator boards), John Twarog & Bob Grossman (train repairs) and Noah Coop (repairing and restoring Johnny West action figures) were well received by the attendees, as was the traditional talk by former Marx employees, where a new face, former Marx employee Don Stewart, along with old friends, met and shared stories with the attendees! The Marx show and tell session brought out some real rarities for the crowd to see, and many terrific things were found at the swap meet.

A couple of new features greeted our guests this year. On Friday night, a group of the Marx folks got together at the Keg Und Kraut, a longtime Wheeling restaurant, for an evening of great food and great company! And on Sunday, June 18th, fourteen of the attendees made the trek to Erie, Pennsylvania, for a day of tourism and activities in that other Marx bastion to our north, all planned and organized by Bud Kovacs, of the Virtual Marx Museum! Plans are already underway for the 9th Annual Marx Convention, slated for Friday & Saturday June 15th & 16th, 2007! There is nothing like being here!

Why not make plans to attend the 8th Annual Convention? Check the "Convention itinerary & registration" page for more details (detailed convention info is usually posted in February each year. Also, we have a convention memories page, to let you see past conventions. Click below to visit!

2nd Annual West Virginia Mego Meet a Smash Hit!

On Friday and Saturday, June 2 & 3, 2006, the museum again filled with fans and collectors of Mego action figures from the sixties and seventies! Both attendance and number of tables increased substantially from last year, as the event continues to grow! There was something for everyone at this year's event, with not just the stalwart World's Greatest Superheroes well represented, but everything Mego, from Micronauts to the Wizard of Oz! A special action figure made for the meet, Jet Jungle, was available for purchase by attendees, and the Mego Museum website issued a special Jet Jungle card, available only to those who attended, in their popular trading card series! Make plans for next year; the 2007 Mego Meet will be held on June 1 & 2, 2007!

Toy Museum is featured in the CNN.com travel section, and in newspapers across the country!

On Sunday, January 9, 2006, CNN.com, the news website, featured the Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum in the travel section of their site! The Associated Press story was the lead story under travel for the day! If you missed it and would like to take a look, the article has also appeared in well over a hundred newspapers across the country!

The Associated Press article, written by Charleston's April Vitello and featuring the photos of Wheelingite Scott McCloskey, was also featured on the USA Today online edition in early January, and has appeared in hundreds of newspapers across the nation, from Philadelphia to San Diego, and from Maine to Florida and Texas, and even in Hawaii! M.T.H. Electric Trains places rare prototypes on loan to Museum!

Recently, M.T.H. Electric Trains placed several rare toy train prototype models on loan to the Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum! The models, a diesel engine and matching bobber caboose lettered for WSX Blast Furnace (Weirton Steel), are the art samples for these two limited production items, which were released in mid 2005. The trains, which were designed by Patrick Petros of Patrick's Trains, located on 29th Street in downtown Wheeling, sold out quickly, showing that there is still a great deal of interest in local rail and steel history! Petros and MTH are teaming up again to do an engine/caboose pair for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, due for release in the near future. You can now see these rare models on display here at the museum for only a short time, and you can pre-order the upcoming Wheeling Pitt pieces from Patrick's Trains (his website is in our "links" section).

Mego Meet response is Better than Expected; Event to Become Annual!

The 2005 Mego Meet, which was held at the museum on June 3 and 4, 2005, was a fun event for all who attended. And attendance far exceeded expectations! Dealers from as far away as Arizona set up at the show, and virtually every attendee went away with some new treasure for their collection! The talks and workshops were also very well received, with high attendance at all!

The response to the 2005 Mego Meet was phenomenal, and after careful consideration, we've decided to make the meet an annual affair! Henceforth referred to as the West Virginia Mego Meet, the collector event will take place the first weekend of June each year. Plans are already underway for June 2 and 3, 2006, so check back for details soon!

The Mego Museum website has put up a wonderful gallery of photos from the June 3rd and 4th event. Visit their gallery by clicking below!
